Is there a free version?
No. There is a trial: pair your reMarkable, connect your AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Notion, Raycast or any MCP client) and send a few notes, so you can see the two working together on your own tablet. After those first pushes, remarkdown is Pro only. Can't connect your tablet or AI client? We'll help, contact support.
Do you keep my data on your servers?
We store an index of your document names and folders so you can browse and search by name. Note contents (text and page images) are stored only on Pro with Document Reading on, only for the folder you connect, and deleted the moment you turn reading off or cancel. Pushes pass through in transit — we log the title and time, not the body. No ads, no selling your data. Buy the self-host add-on and no data remains on our servers at any point.
Can my AI see everything on my tablet?
No. Your AI can browse the document names and folders in your index, but it can only read contents from the one folder you pick and anything nested inside it. Pushes land there too. We never fetch note contents from the rest of your tablet.
What are AI credits?
Credits pay for handwriting transcription. Monthly Pro starts with a one-time grant of 250 credits ($10 worth); annual Pro starts with a one-time grant of 625 ($25). Reading and search never use credits — only transcription does.
What happens if I run out of credits?
When you run out of credits, we stop transcribing handwriting for you, but nothing breaks: your AI can still see each handwritten page as an image and read it directly, which works well for short notes. For longer or denser pages, our precision OCR reads the page region by region, following its layout, to turn your ink into clean, searchable text. That's what credits pay for. You can top up whenever you like, and credits never expire.
How many apps will Pro include?
There's no fixed number. Pro includes remarkdown apps as they ship, so your plan grows as new apps become available.
What does host it yourself include?
The host-it-yourself add-on runs remarkdown as a desktop app and keeps your notes and search index on your Mac, Windows, or Linux machine. It costs $99 for the first year, then $29/year. Email support@remarkdown.org to get started.
Is this an official reMarkable product?
No. remarkdown is an independent product from Remarkdown LLC, not affiliated with reMarkable AS or Anthropic. There's no official public API, so we use the same cloud sync the official apps use. Nothing touches the device itself: no firmware mods, no SSH.
Can I cancel Pro?
Any time. Your synced note contents are deleted from our servers.
Do I need a card to start?
Not for the trial. Pairing and your first few pushes need no payment details. To keep going you upgrade to Pro, paid by card or any other payment method Stripe offers in your country.
